The hiking region in Kaunergrat Nature Park comprises the towns of Landeck, Zams, Fliess, Tobadill, Grins and Stanz. It lies ensconced between the Lechtal and Ötztal Alps. Countless hikes at all altitudes guarantee revitalization, recuperation from everyday life and breathtaking views.
Overall in the Fliess region there are 130 highly diverse hikes to be ventured upon. Point of departure for most of them is the Kaunergrat Nature Park House at Gachenblick. The panorama platform at Gachenblick will win your acclaim, not just for the spectacular views. The Nature Park House is the axis of the park, providing fascinating information about nature and culture.
On the sun terrace, you can savor local specialties and enjoy the multi-media exhibition “3000 metres VERTICAL” which will permit you to experience the extraordinary things in the nature park up close.
From Gachenblick, a wide system of hiking trails opens up in all directions. The Gachenblick Roundabout is an easy hike with walking time of under 2 hours. The Piller teaching trail circumlocutes the fen, it’s also a roundabout hike, combining the fascinations of a high altitude moor with cultural background of the people. Enjoy the views on the Latschen high alpine moor as well. This hike is also suitable for those with reduced mobility.
Along idyllic and beautiful meadow trails, in the Fliess protected nature zone called “Sunny Slopes” (Natura 2000 area), plants that love the warmth and more than 1100 species of butterflies find a unique habitat here.
An easy-going thematic hike leads from Neuen Zoll over a steep slope to the St. Barbara church, something you should not miss.
From Monday through Friday from the beginning of July to mid-September, there are guided hikes with a trained guide through the unparalleled world of glaciers. Meeting place is the sun terrace of the Weißsee Restaurant (2,750 m) of the Kaunertal Glacier at 11:00 am. On request, private glacier crevasse guided tours are possible.
